SERVING THE SOUTH WALES SEMICONDUCTOR INDUSTRY
Not just a building...
The Centre for Integrative Semiconductor Materials will bring together semiconductor and advanced materials platforms and processes to deliver new technologies and products, helping to create the skills and talent to keep our industry at the leading edge.
The facility will provide a range of services from blue-sky research to applied R&TD, prototyping and process development, specialist services, incubation, engagement, training and access to the UK and EU innovation grants portfolio.
A Co-operative Concept
CISM is a multi-disciplinary, multi-sectional concept that was developed by a network of partnerships and growing out of the TRL ecosystem already developing in South Wales. Main partners to the project are Swansea University, IQE, SPTS and Newport Wafer Fab with a further nine partners.
The building itself will be located at the heart of the Swansea University Bay Campus, within the existing engineering quarter. This is the prime location to allow collaboration and shared facilities with the existing engineering buildings. The project will be coming online in 2022 and is funded by the Research England (UKRI) Research Partnership Investment Fund (RPIF) and will be delivered by the Principle Contractor, Kier.
CISM IS UNIQUE...
The Centre for Integrated Semiconductor Materials will be a single fab capable of dealing with advanced silicon, state of the art compound semiconductors and the next generation of "soft semiconductors" such as 2D materials, organics and perovskites.
